Zen Shiatsu - “The Practical Course“

Next Course Intake: May 2026

Touch is the most instinctive form of healing.

Shiatsu is a dynamic body therapy in which the therapist interacts with the receiver to restore balance in the energy system. It is founded on the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory that energy moves through channels within the body, known as meridians. Shiatsu practitioners aim to restore balance through the meridians to promote health and strengthen the body’s healing abilities.

A person is performing a medical or therapeutic procedure on another person's leg, using a large marker to circle or mark a spot on the leg. The person is wearing a black shirt and beaded bracelets, and the person receiving the treatment is lying on a bed or table with their ankle and foot visible, wearing patterned socks.

Why study Shiatsu?

Imbalances in the body, that is, too little or too much qi, can manifest in various ailments depending on which meridians are affected. Zen Shiatsu provides healing in a gentle non-invasive way with the use of various body parts, to move and balance qi.

Practitioners use their fingers, thumbs, elbows, knuckles, feet, and palms, to assist in the manipulation and mobilisation of joints, gentle stretching, and acupressure.

This Japanese form of dry massage is completed on the floor where the client wears comfortable clothing, and is suitable for all ages and health conditions.

Performing a Shiatsu routine is therapeutic for the practitioner as well, as it requires flexibility, mobility and strength.
